POSITION: Ballfield Groundskeeper/NA-5705-06                                     SALARY: $19.61 – 22.40/ PH

 

EMPLOYMENT CATEGORY: Flexible (May be scheduled to work up to 40 hours weekly, May be required to work weekends, holidays, and evenings. No Group Benefits Included)

DUTIES: Responsible for the up keep and maintenance of the softball fields, multi-purpose athletic complex, football /soccer fields, and the surrounding areas. Must be able to operate a variety of ground maintenance equipment to encourage and control grass growth, sodding and reseeding, fertilizing and spraying chemical to discourage undesirable growths. Drag and mark fields in accordance with appropriate specifications. Drive a tractor to perform grass cutting, ground maintenance and dragging of the infields. May be assisted by ballfield amintencae laborers. Operates gas and diesel powered tractor drawn and tractor powered mowing equipment, including a gang real mower, off-set counter-balance rotary motor, zero turn mower, 3 wheeler hydro rake, sweeper, aerator, fertilizer spreader, front end loader, back hoe and grading blade. Mows grounds at designated cuts; removes debris, dead grass, leaves and keeps assigned areas clean, presentable, and as attractive as possible. Digs trenches, cleans ditches and removes weeds around building, fences, trees, shrubbery, sidewalks and other such locations, using hand tools such as edger, shovel, hoe, rake and other types of specialized hand tools. Performs preventative maintenance on gas and diesel powered machinery and other types of mechanical equipment and hand tools used to accomplish assigned duties and responsibilities. Ensures areas are policed and that trash and garbage are disposed of properly. Incumbent performs other related duties as assigned by supervisory/managerial personnel, and may be required to work at other MWR Facilities on occasion or as needs may arise

QUALIFICATIONS:  The incumbent must have knowledge of grounds upkeep, maintenance task and methods related to basic ballfield maintenance. Must be skilled in maintaining and preparing various ballfield features, for general use and scheduled events. Must have basic motor vehicle operator skills and license. A high degree of skill is needed to maneuver driver operated machinery in small places, tight, confined spaces, and in a small turning radius. A high degree of manual skill and prior work experience is required to work safely with powered hand tools, and hand tools used to do cleaning, and maintenance of grounds and facilities. Must be able to follow oral and written instruction and accomplish work independently and with minimum supervision.

 

 

 

NOTE:  As a condition of employment, selectee(s) will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer within the first 60 days of employment.
